In the near future, a robot and a homeless man share an alley way begging for change. After becoming jealous of the robot for making more money than him, the man devises a plan to get rich quick at the robot's expense.
Originally titled "An Arm & An Arm", the first rendition of the film was different in that the human character was more sympathetic and the robot character had more empathy. Not wanting to confuse the audience on who to route for, this was changed after the first week of production. While still going for comedy, the final version of the film is much more cynical and less uplifting.
Production on my Senior Film lasted 14 weeks. It began with me coming up with a story and then planning what would be done each week in terms of animation, editing, and all other parts of the animation pipeline. One of the first things I did was search for existing assets to create an environment for my film, and then redesign them to form a cohesive artistic look.
I also made changes to existing character rigs in order for them to fit the narrative I originally pitched. The biggest part of this was editing both of the main characters' arms for the film's ending.
The two skyline shots to communicate the passing of days in the story were particularly challenging to make. They were created by animating the sun and moon, the sky, and the buildings themselves separately and editing them all together in post.
Thanks for making it this far! Here is my Behance page for more behind-the-scenes content from my film...
